India has recognised several local digital governance initiatives at the National e-Governance Awards (NAeG) 2026, showcasing the growing role of Panchayati Raj institutions in delivering citizen services through technology-driven systems.
The awards, announced by the Government of India, will be formally presented at the 29th National e-Governance Conference in Jaipur in July 2026. A total of 17 projects were selected across multiple categories, reflecting the country’s continued push toward AI-enabled, data-driven, and secure digital governance.
Among the key winners was the Panchayat Unnati Index, a national data analytics platform developed by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. The system evaluates village-level performance using development indicators aligned with the Local Sustainable Development Goals, helping authorities track progress and identify gaps in service delivery across rural areas.
At the grassroots level, Kadepur Gram Panchayat in Maharashtra received recognition for its fully digital governance system that delivers over 1,300 public services online through a paperless e-office platform. The system also integrates artificial intelligence applications, blockchain-based recordkeeping, and GIS-based asset mapping to improve administrative efficiency and transparency.
Another award-winning initiative came from Bijoy Nagar Gram Panchayat in Tripura, which was recognised for its participatory and inclusive digital governance model. The panchayat provides more than 100 online services and has implemented real-time communication systems for households, alongside strong progress in digital literacy among women residents.
In the health sector, the e-Arogya Dhamani programme in Nandurbar district was honoured for improving healthcare delivery in tribal and remote regions. The initiative uses digital tools to connect underserved communities with medical services, strengthening access and responsiveness in public health systems.
Officials noted that participation in the awards has expanded significantly, with hundreds of thousands of gram panchayats across India submitting entries. This growth reflects increasing adoption of digital tools at the local government level and a broader national effort to modernise public service delivery.
The National e-Governance Awards continue to serve as a platform for highlighting scalable governance models that combine technology, data, and citizen engagement to improve service outcomes across India.
