The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has awarded Streit Security Vehicles FZ-LLC a $198.64 million contract to supply specialized vehicles to the Congolese National Police (PNC), as Kinshasa moves to strengthen police capabilities amid heightened security concerns.
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Jacquemain Shabani Lukoo Bihango awarded the contract, valued at exactly $198,635,462.50 including taxes. The purchase will be financed through the public treasury.
The final award decision, dated August 18, 2026, does not disclose the number of vehicles, specific models or delivery schedule. The contract was awarded through a negotiated procurement procedure after the General Directorate for Public Procurement Control authorized the Interior Ministry to use the process with Streit Security Vehicles.
The procurement received a no-objection notice from the regulator in February, while Prime Minister Judith Suminwa signed the approval form on August 11, 2026.
The agreement follows a February announcement by the Interior Ministry concerning a deal with Streit Group to provide vehicles and specialized equipment for the PNC. That announcement referred to armored vehicles, drones, boats and other equipment intended to improve police intervention capabilities under the 2026–2030 PNC reform program.
However, the August award document specifically covers specialized vehicles and does not confirm that the drones, boats or other equipment mentioned in February are included in the $198.64 million contract.
The latest agreement expands Streit’s existing relationship with Congolese security institutions. The company has previously supplied equipment to the Republican Guard and the Congolese National Police.
In 2024, reports indicated that the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo had ordered approximately 100 Streit armored vehicles assembled at the company’s facility in Nakasongola, Uganda. That reported contract was valued at around $25 million and included vehicle deliveries, crew training and three years of maintenance.
Streit opened its Nakasongola plant in 2022 through NEC-Streit (U) Ltd, a joint venture between Streit Group and Uganda’s National Enterprise Corporation. The facility manufactures and assembles armored vehicles for regional security markets.
The $198.64 million Streit contract highlights the DRC government’s broader effort to modernize the Congolese National Police and expand its operational capabilities. While details of the vehicle fleet remain undisclosed, the scale of the agreement represents a significant investment in specialized police equipment.
