Japan has contributed approximately $3.1 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to provide lifesaving food and nutrition assistance to Palestinians facing severe food insecurity.
The grant of JPY 500 million will support the purchase of wheat flour and Japanese canned fish, helping meet essential food and nutrition needs for more than 170,000 people across Gaza and the West Bank.
The contribution comes as vulnerable Palestinian families continue to face acute food insecurity driven by conflict, economic hardship and limited access to diverse and nutritious food. In Gaza, access to food, affordability and the nutritional quality of commodities remain critical concerns, while families in the West Bank are facing violence, economic deterioration and restrictions that are making it increasingly difficult to afford nutritious diets.
WFP said the funding will provide essential support to communities affected by conflict and economic hardship, helping vulnerable families access staple foods and important sources of protein.
The latest contribution brings Japan’s total support to WFP’s Palestine response since 2023 to approximately $69 million, highlighting its continued commitment to humanitarian assistance.
WFP emphasized that sustained humanitarian access remains essential to ensuring food assistance reaches vulnerable people safely, consistently and on time.
The funding is expected to provide a vital lifeline for Palestinians experiencing severe food insecurity while supporting ongoing efforts to improve access to nutritious food in Gaza and the West Bank.
