The Irish government has officially opened applications for the €120 million Road Transporters Support Scheme (RTSS), aimed at providing financial assistance to haulage and passenger transport operators across the country.
The scheme was announced by Darragh O’Brien alongside Seán Canney and Jerry Buttimer on 20 May 2026.
Administered by the Department of Transport, the initiative is designed to support transport operators facing ongoing economic pressures and operational challenges. The application portal is now live on the department’s official website, with submissions accepted until midday on Friday, 12 June 2026.
Minister Darragh O’Brien stated that the government moved quickly to launch the application process in response to the urgent needs of the transport sector. He noted that the process has been designed to be simple and accessible, allowing operators to apply without unnecessary delays.
Minister Seán Canney described the launch of the RTSS portal as the result of months of engagement with the haulage and coach industries. He emphasized that recent weeks have been particularly difficult for transport operators and said the scheme would deliver much-needed financial support to businesses across the sector.
Minister Jerry Buttimer highlighted the importance of the initiative for rural and regional communities, noting that transport providers play a crucial role in maintaining connectivity, delivering goods, and ensuring access to services, education, and employment throughout Ireland.
According to the Department of Transport, full eligibility requirements, terms and conditions, and State Aid guidance are available through the RTSS application portal. The government is encouraging eligible operators to submit applications as early as possible before the June deadline.
