The Government of Ireland has confirmed that the Road Transporters Support Scheme (RTSS) will open for applications on Wednesday, 20 May. Announced last month, the scheme is designed to support the road transport sector, recognizing its essential role in maintaining supply chains and providing connectivity across both urban and rural communities. The funding aims to help licensed hauliers, own-account operators, and commercial coach companies cope with increased fuel costs linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien emphasized the importance of the scheme, noting that the application portal will be available on the Department of Transport’s website until 12 June. Minister of State Seán Canney added that the process has been simplified to ensure operators can access support quickly and continue their vital role in the economy.
The scheme will be administered by the Department of Transport, with payments calculated based on the number of vehicles owned by qualifying operators. Full eligibility criteria, terms and conditions, and state aid rules will be published alongside the application system. Applicants are responsible for ensuring all required information is submitted, as incomplete applications will be excluded.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to supporting Ireland’s transport sector during challenging times, ensuring that businesses and communities remain connected while mitigating the impact of rising operational costs.
