The Ontario government has announced a $1.6 billion investment in 79 school construction projects across the province to expand and modernise educational infrastructure. The funding is aimed at supporting growing communities by creating more than 29,000 new student spaces and over 1,900 licensed child care spaces, ensuring students have access to updated learning environments that support academic success and future career readiness.
A significant portion of the investment is directed to the London area, which will receive $285 million for seven new schools and expansions to two existing schools. These projects will collectively add over 5,300 student spaces and 362 child care spaces, including new Catholic, public, and French-language schools, as well as expansions to existing institutions to meet rising enrolment demands.
The announcement also includes detailed investments in individual school projects such as new secondary and elementary schools in London, St. Thomas, Komoka, and surrounding areas. These developments are designed to address population growth and ensure that school infrastructure keeps pace with community needs, while also expanding access to child care services for families.
The Capital Priorities program is supporting this initiative by funding new school construction, expansions, renovations, and school acquisitions across the province. The 2025–26 funding cycle includes both newly approved projects and additional priority developments ready to proceed, forming part of Ontario’s broader long-term commitment of more than $22 billion over ten years for education infrastructure.
Government and education leaders have emphasised that these investments are intended to improve student outcomes, support growing communities, and strengthen local economies. Officials highlighted that the projects will provide modern, safe, and inclusive learning environments, while also ensuring accountability and timely delivery through strengthened planning and oversight measures.
