Akron Community Foundation has announced more than $6.2 million in quarterly grants, including $671,500 dedicated to arts and culture initiatives across Summit County. The funding will support 57 organizations focused on expanding access to arts, education, music, dance, theater, and community engagement programs.
The grants are part of the foundation’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the region’s cultural landscape and supporting organizations that create meaningful opportunities for residents of all ages. Additional funding from donor-advised funds contributed nearly $20,000 to local arts organizations through a co-investment initiative.
Among the recipients are the Akron Art Museum, Akron Civic Theatre, Akron Symphony Orchestra, Summit Artspace, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, and the National Center for Choreography-Akron. Several organizations will use the funding to provide educational programs, free performances, artist development opportunities, and community outreach initiatives.
The Akron Black Artist Guild received support for programs that promote exhibition opportunities and professional development for artists from historically underrepresented communities. Meanwhile, the National Center for Choreography-Akron will use its grant to expand dance residencies and celebrate its 10th anniversary with year-long community programming.
New grantee Killer Video also received funding to support its Akron Independent Horror Short Film Festival, media literacy programs, and efforts to preserve video rental culture through its unique video museum.
Foundation leaders said the grants are designed to enhance access to arts and culture while fostering creativity, inclusion, and community connection throughout Summit County. The funding is expected to benefit thousands of residents through performances, exhibitions, workshops, educational initiatives, and cultural events during the coming year.
