Community leaders and local stakeholders in Sandown have met with representatives from the Lloyds Bank Foundation to explore future funding opportunities aimed at addressing long-term social and economic challenges in the town.
The meeting, organized by Isle of Wight East MP Joe Robertson, brought together local business leaders, community organizations, elected representatives, and public sector stakeholders at the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary. Discussions focused on key issues affecting Sandown, including deprivation, dereliction, and limited opportunities for young people.
The Lloyds Bank Foundation, which supports community-led initiatives across the United Kingdom, is considering expanding its place-based funding programme to include up to 100 towns that currently do not receive support through government-backed Pride in Place initiatives. Sandown is being considered as a potential candidate for future investment.
Joe Robertson highlighted the importance of ensuring Sandown is not overlooked when national funding opportunities become available. He emphasized the need for local leadership and collaboration to prepare the town for potential future support aimed at tackling deep-rooted social and economic issues.
Local stakeholders expressed strong support for efforts to secure greater recognition and investment for Sandown. Community leaders noted that while nearby areas have benefited from significant regeneration funding, Sandown faces its own unique challenges that require targeted solutions.
A formal proposal is expected to be developed ahead of a follow-up meeting later this year, as local representatives continue discussions on how additional funding and partnerships could help drive long-term community development and economic renewal in the town.
