A new funding round has opened for Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) strategic infrastructure projects across Cheltenham Borough, Gloucester City, and Tewkesbury Borough, supporting long-term development and community improvements in the region.
The ten-week application window runs from June 1 to August 7, 2026, allowing infrastructure providers, partner organisations, and community groups to submit proposals for funding consideration. The initiative aims to support projects that enable sustainable growth and deliver wider community benefits across one or more of the participating council areas.
The funding will be used to support both large-scale strategic infrastructure projects benefiting all three council areas, as well as local strategic projects that serve one or two areas while contributing to broader regional development goals. Eligible project types may include transport improvements, healthcare facilities, flood defence systems, park enhancements, and community sports infrastructure.
Council leaders emphasized that the funding represents an important opportunity to invest in infrastructure that directly improves quality of life and supports future development. Applicants are encouraged to carefully review eligibility criteria and submit detailed proposals, including cost breakdowns, delivery plans, and climate impact assessments.
As of December 2025, approximately £6.6 million remains available for allocation, with funding distributed across the three councils: £4.6 million for Tewkesbury Borough, £1.9 million for Cheltenham Borough, and £100,000 for Gloucester City.
Applications may request feasibility funding for early-stage project planning or full delivery funding for ready-to-execute projects with established budgets and implementation plans.
Following the submission deadline, eligible applications will be reviewed by the CIL Joint Committee, with final funding decisions expected later in the year. The program reflects a coordinated regional approach to infrastructure investment aimed at supporting sustainable growth and community development across the three council areas.
