The Wildhorse Foundation has awarded $495,628 in its first-quarter 2026 grant cycle, distributing funding to 35 organizations across Oregon and Washington to support community development, public safety, health services, education, and environmental projects.
The grants were issued across a highly competitive cycle, with more than $1.5 million in funding requests submitted from 70 eligible applicants. According to the foundation, the selected projects reflect ongoing community needs and a strong demand for localized funding support across the region.
The Wildhorse Foundation supports initiatives spanning public health, emergency services, arts and culture, education, environmental protection, and social welfare. The latest round includes funding for fire departments, schools, nonprofits, healthcare services, and cultural organizations, with individual grants ranging from $3,000 to $30,000.
Among the recipients, the City of Hermiston received funding for Agape House food pantry construction, while Heppner Fire Department secured support for wildland fire equipment and protective gear. Other fire and emergency service agencies across the region also received funding to enhance response capabilities and safety infrastructure.
Educational and youth-focused initiatives were also supported, including funding for school playground upgrades, literacy programs, arts education, and STEM learning access. Several grants were directed toward improving accessibility and learning opportunities for students and underserved communities.
Healthcare and social service organizations received support for rural cancer care assistance, disability support programs, and food and housing security initiatives. Environmental and cultural projects were also included, such as habitat restoration efforts and community arts development.
The foundation also issued smaller rapid response grants of up to $1,500 for immediate local needs, supporting schools, clinics, and community organizations across Oregon.
Since its establishment in 2001, the Wildhorse Foundation has provided more than $20 million in total grant funding, reinforcing its role as a consistent source of philanthropic support for regional community development projects.
