As conflict continues to affect communities across Lebanon, migrant families are facing unique challenges that often remain overlooked. Limited access to transportation, financial resources and support networks has left many migrant workers trapped between dangerous conditions and uncertain choices.
For many migrant families, leaving conflict-affected areas was not always possible. Some remained in unsafe locations because they lacked money, transport or alternative shelter, while others took significant risks to move through insecure areas in search of safety.
The humanitarian impact extends beyond immediate physical danger. Parents have struggled to provide food and care for their children, while women and children face increased psychological stress caused by displacement, insecurity and repeated exposure to violence.
Migrant workers often experience additional vulnerabilities during crises due to limited legal protections, restricted access to services and dependence on employer-linked systems. Some families reported pressure from landlords to continue paying rent despite being unable to work during displacement, while others faced difficulties accessing healthcare, reliable information and safe accommodation.
Local migrant-led organizations have played a crucial role in supporting affected communities. Egna Legna, a partner of the Danish Refugee Council, established a multilingual hotline to help families communicate their needs and access emergency assistance. The organization has supported thousands of individuals by providing essential supplies including food, hygiene items, bedding and household necessities.
The partnership between Egna Legna and the Danish Refugee Council demonstrates the importance of community-based humanitarian responses during emergencies. Because the organization is deeply connected to migrant communities, it can identify vulnerable families quickly and provide support that reflects their specific needs.
Emergency assistance has included support for displaced migrant families in areas heavily affected by conflict, offering not only essential relief but also a sense of dignity and connection during a period of uncertainty.
Before the escalation of conflict, Egna Legna focused on helping migrant workers improve their livelihoods through skills development programmes covering areas such as clothing production, handicrafts, food preservation and other income-generating activities. When the crisis intensified, the organization adapted its community networks to provide urgent humanitarian assistance.
The experience of migrant families in Lebanon highlights the importance of inclusive humanitarian action that reaches people who may otherwise remain invisible during crises. Through local partnerships, emergency support and community-driven solutions, affected families are receiving assistance while rebuilding hope and resilience amid ongoing challenges.
