The Xcel Energy Foundation has awarded $580,000 in grants to 37 nonprofit organizations across Texas and New Mexico to support programs focused on STEM Career Pathways, Environmental Sustainability, and Community Vitality. The funding recognizes nonprofits that are creating educational opportunities, promoting environmental stewardship, supporting underserved communities, and strengthening local economies.
The STEM Career Pathways grants support K-12 project-based learning, mentorship programs, financial aid for students, inclusive educational environments, and workforce training initiatives that prepare individuals for careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These programs aim to build a skilled workforce and expand career opportunities for future generations.
The Environmental Sustainability grants fund projects related to disaster preparedness, conservation education, green community spaces, habitat restoration, and natural resource management, with a particular emphasis on water conservation and environmental protection. These initiatives help communities become more resilient while promoting sustainable development.
The Community Vitality grants support employment services, entrepreneurship programs, arts and cultural initiatives, and outreach activities that benefit underserved and historically marginalized populations. These efforts contribute to stronger local economies, increased social inclusion, and improved quality of life for residents.
The Foundation highlighted the important role nonprofit organizations play in creating positive community impact through education, economic development, and social support services. Over the past 25 years, the Xcel Energy Foundation has invested nearly $160 million across its eight-state service area through grants, employee matching gifts, volunteer programs, and disaster relief funding.
In addition to financial support, Xcel Energy encourages employee volunteerism through its annual Day of Service, which mobilizes thousands of employees to participate in community improvement projects. The Foundation’s continued investment demonstrates its commitment to fostering sustainable growth, educational advancement, environmental responsibility, and community well-being throughout the regions it serves.
