The Xcel Energy Foundation has awarded $580,000 in grants to 37 nonprofit organizations across Texas and New Mexico to support programs focused on STEM education, environmental sustainability, and community development. The funding recognizes the important role local nonprofits play in creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and improving quality of life throughout the region.
The grants were distributed through the Foundation’s Focus Area Grants Program, which supports initiatives that prepare students for future careers, promote environmental stewardship, and enhance economic and social well-being. STEM Career Pathways funding will help expand hands-on learning opportunities, mentorship programs, workforce training, and educational support services that equip students and workers with skills needed for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers.
Environmental Sustainability grants will support projects related to disaster preparedness, conservation, habitat restoration, community green spaces, and natural resource management, with a particular emphasis on water conservation and environmental education. These initiatives aim to build stronger and more resilient communities while protecting local ecosystems.
Community Vitality grants are designed to strengthen local economies and support underserved populations through employment services, entrepreneurship programs, arts and cultural initiatives, and community outreach activities. The funding will help organizations expand opportunities for individuals and families while promoting inclusion and economic growth.
The grant program reflects Xcel Energy Foundation’s long-term commitment to community investment. Over the past 25 years, the Foundation has invested nearly $160 million across its service area through nonprofit grants, employee giving programs, volunteer initiatives, and disaster relief efforts. In addition to financial support, Xcel Energy employees contribute thousands of volunteer hours annually to community projects, further enhancing the Foundation’s positive impact.
By supporting nonprofit organizations that focus on education, sustainability, and community development, the Foundation aims to create lasting benefits for residents across Texas and New Mexico while helping communities build a stronger and more prosperous future.
