The State of Maryland has announced $73.3 million in funding to support statewide community revitalization and economic development projects, aiming to strengthen local economies and improve infrastructure in underserved communities.
The investment, finalized for Fiscal Year 2027, will support 247 projects across Maryland through six State Revitalization Programs administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. The funding will be distributed to local governments, community organizations, and partner institutions working to advance redevelopment and economic growth.
State officials said the initiative is expected to generate more than $1.3 billion in economic impact by supporting projects that improve housing, strengthen commercial corridors, expand business opportunities, and enhance public spaces.
Key funding areas include demolition of unsafe structures, housing rehabilitation, façade improvements, workforce development facilities, and mixed-use redevelopment projects. Several large-scale initiatives target both urban and rural communities across the state, including Baltimore City, Frederick, Prince George’s County, and rural counties such as Allegany and Dorchester.
A portion of the funding—over $20 million each—has been allocated to major regional programs, including the Baltimore Regional Neighborhood Initiative and the National Capital Strategic Economic Development Fund. These programs support housing rehabilitation, commercial redevelopment, and community infrastructure improvements in areas surrounding Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
An additional $10 million has been awarded through the Seed Community Development Anchor Institution Fund, supporting projects led by universities and hospitals. These include workforce training centers, environmental research facilities, and public safety coordination hubs designed to strengthen long-term regional development.
The Strategic Demolition Fund also awarded $10 million to projects such as housing repairs for vulnerable residents, downtown redevelopment initiatives, and infrastructure improvements in multiple municipalities.
State officials emphasized that the investments are part of a broader strategy to promote equitable development, reduce childhood poverty, and support “Just Communities” where targeted funding is directed to address historical disparities.
Applications for the next funding round will open on June 22, 2026, with additional informational webinars scheduled in advance for interested applicants.
The announcement highlights Maryland’s continued focus on revitalizing disinvested communities and fostering sustainable economic growth through coordinated public investment and redevelopment programs.
