The International Labour Organization (ILO) has launched a new global database on National Social Dialogue Institutions (NSDIs) to mark the 50th anniversary of the Tripartite Consultation Convention (No. 144). This initiative is designed to strengthen evidence-based social dialogue policies and institutions by providing governments, employers, workers’ organizations, and researchers with comparative data and insights.
The database enhances understanding of social dialogue worldwide by offering both quantitative and qualitative information on national mechanisms for tripartite consultation and cooperation. The quantitative component is already available online, allowing users to compare countries by institutional type, date of establishment, and composition, as well as generate statistics, diagrams, visualizations, and world maps showing the distribution of institutional models. It also provides comparative information on key social dialogue conventions.
Qualitative regional tables will be released progressively, beginning with Europe and Central Asia before the start of the 2026 International Labour Conference, with other regions to follow. This resource is expected to become a cornerstone for strengthening social dialogue globally by making institutional data more accessible and comparable.
