Dara Calleary and Jerry Buttimer have announced that 369 Men’s Sheds across Ireland have received funding through the Irish Men’s Sheds Association. The initiative provides grants of up to €3,000 to support operational costs such as heating, electricity, and insurance, with all funds now fully distributed following assessment by IMSA.
The funding aims to sustain the day-to-day functioning of Men’s Sheds, which play an important role in community life. These spaces offer men a safe and inclusive environment to connect, share skills, and build relationships, helping strengthen social ties and local engagement across the country.
Minister Calleary emphasized that the support will help Men’s Sheds continue delivering essential services, particularly by easing financial pressures associated with running costs. He also acknowledged the advocacy and coordination work carried out by IMSA in supporting the national network of sheds and their members.
Minister Buttimer highlighted the broader social impact of the initiative, noting that Men’s Sheds help address social isolation, especially in rural areas, while fostering friendships and community participation. He added that the funding reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting these community-based initiatives.
The Men’s Sheds movement in Ireland, supported by IMSA since 2011, has grown to include around 450 sheds nationwide. Originating in Australia and first established in Tipperary, the movement has become a key part of Ireland’s community infrastructure, promoting wellbeing and social inclusion among participants.
