The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) and Seeding the Future Foundation have announced a deadline of 6 January 2025 for their Global Food System Challenge. They are inviting scientists, engineers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and teams from various organizations to submit innovative ideas that can revolutionize the food system. The challenge aims to inspire diverse teams to come up with solutions in three focus areas: empowering conscious consumer choices, sustainable regenerative practices, and ensuring safe, nutritious food for a healthy diet.
Seeding The Future’s mission is to support initiatives and organizations that drive innovations for a more nutritious, regenerative, and equitable food system. Their vision is a global food system that provides safe, nutritious, and affordable food to everyone, while improving health and sustainability. The challenge offers monetary awards totaling up to one million US dollars annually, including seed grants, growth grants, and grand prizes.
Eligibility criteria require projects to be innovative and impactful, benefiting at least one of the focus areas without negative effects on others. Non-profits, academic/research institutions, and early-stage for-profit companies from any country can participate, except those under U.S. sanctions. Individuals cannot apply.
Ineligibility criteria exclude projects that harm food safety or sustainability, theoretical concepts without practical implementation, support for large for-profit entities, non-scalable initiatives, and those related to political campaigns or lobbying. For more details, visit the IFT website.
