The Cinema Ascent program is a 12-month mentorship and export readiness initiative aimed at supporting mid-career First Nations, Inuit, and Métis filmmakers from Canada, particularly those in Northern Ontario. This program, funded by the Canada Media Fund (CMF), will offer training and mentorship to eight participants who are working on upcoming feature-length or television projects. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with industry experts, participate in export missions, and collaborate with other Indigenous filmmakers. Eligible applicants must be First Nations, Inuit, or Métis individuals aged 18 and over, with 1-3 years of experience as a Writer, Director, or Producer. They should have worked on short films or a feature-length film/TV series, and have a project in early development stages. Application requirements include a CV, a letter of recommendation, and a letter of support or nomination from an Indigenous community or organization. For more details, visit the CION website.
