India has extended humanitarian assistance to Madagascar following the widespread destruction caused by tropical cyclones Fytia and Gezani earlier this year. An Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft delivered 30 tonnes of relief supplies to Antananarivo, including 12 tonnes of medical aid and 18 tonnes of disaster relief material, to support authorities and humanitarian agencies in aiding affected communities.
The aid package comprises essential items such as life-saving medicines, surgical supplies, tents, water storage tanks, dignity kits, and ready-to-eat meals. These supplies are designed to address immediate humanitarian needs and provide critical support to people impacted by the cyclones.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted that the assistance reflects India’s ongoing engagement with Madagascar and its commitment to supporting populations during crises. The relief delivery underscores India’s solidarity with the Malagasy people in the aftermath of the cyclones, which caused extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods across several regions.
Madagascar, frequently affected by natural disasters, relies on international assistance during emergency response operations. India’s humanitarian outreach forms part of its broader policy on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, through which it regularly provides aid to countries impacted by cyclones, earthquakes, floods, and other emergencies.
