The Cambodian Federation of Employers and Business Associations (CAMFEBA), with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO), hosted a high-level workshop on skills and productivity, emphasizing the critical role of public–private partnerships in building a competitive, future-ready workforce.
The Validation Workshop on Skills and Productivity brought together industry leaders, employer associations, training institutions, trade unions, and government officials to strengthen sector skills councils (SSCs)—key platforms linking employer needs with skills policies, curriculum design, and training delivery.
CAMFEBA President Oknha Sok Piseth highlighted the importance of equipping workers with relevant skills to enhance productivity and competitiveness. “Through strong partnerships on skills, we can unlock the potential of our workforce and help Cambodia seize opportunities in regional and global value chains,” he said.
The workshop validated findings from CAMFEBA’s recent skills gap survey, identifying urgent training needs in manufacturing, services, and emerging green and digital sectors. H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to public-private collaboration to develop a skilled workforce that supports Cambodia’s transition toward a knowledge-based economy.
Discussions focused on improving coordination between ministries, employers, and training providers, financing skills development through partnerships, and aligning SSC initiatives with national strategies, including the Pentagon Strategy – Phase I and the Industrial Development Policy.
The event concluded with commitments to establish a dedicated SSC Secretariat in 2026, identify occupational standards, share skills-demand data, and promote workplace-based learning. The finalized CAMFEBA Skills & Productivity Policy Framework will be formally launched later this year, marking a significant step toward a more skilled, productive, and competitive Cambodian workforce.
