ILO Integrates AI into SME Training through SCORE Programme in the Philippines

Dated: October 3, 2025

The International Labour Organization (ILO), in partnership with the UN Joint Programme Inclusive, Competitive, and Responsible Digital Philippines (Digital-PINAS), has introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) Programme, marking a major step in empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the Philippines. This digital innovation equips enterprises with practical, low-cost AI tools designed to boost productivity, enhance workplace cooperation, and foster inclusive growth.

Since its launch in 2022, SCORE has helped Philippine enterprises adopt global best practices in teamwork, occupational safety and health, and performance tracking. The integration of AI now enables the programme to enhance real-time decision-making, data-driven management, and operational efficiency. In early August 2025, SCORE trainers participated in a landmark refresher series on AI for Enterprise Improvement Teams (EITs), led by ILO experts and Master Trainers. The sessions demonstrated how AI can support SMEs in becoming more agile, innovative, and competitive.

The AI applications within SCORE span several areas. AI tools now assist EITs in drafting workplace documents, streamlining grievance procedures, and improving communication across teams. Platforms like Meta AI and ChatGPT allow enterprises to track key performance indicators—including Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale, and Safety—in real time, helping identify trends and respond swiftly. On the factory floor, AI enables predictive maintenance, safety checks, and digital dashboards, reducing manual tasks and allowing workers to focus on problem-solving. “AI doesn’t replace workers, it empowers them,” emphasized trainers, highlighting the programme’s commitment to inclusive innovation and decent work.

The ILO and its partners are encouraging enterprises, industry associations, and policymakers to scale AI-powered SCORE nationwide. By responsibly harnessing AI, Philippine SMEs can modernize operations, strengthen improvement teams, and achieve productivity gains while safeguarding workers’ rights. The integration of AI into SCORE exemplifies how traditional enterprise development can merge with digital innovation to create workplaces that are productive, inclusive, and future-ready.

SCORE remains a global ILO initiative promoting sustainable enterprise development through better workplace practices, implemented in the Philippines with support from Digital-PINAS and other development partners.
