The United Kingdom and the United States have launched the Tech Prosperity Deal, marking the first UK-US technology agreement aimed at accelerating AI, quantum, and nuclear innovations. The pact will drive breakthroughs in healthcare, including faster drug development, improved cancer treatments, and life-saving medical technologies. It also seeks to advance clean nuclear energy, generate high-paying jobs, and attract billions in investment to local communities and businesses in both countries.
As part of the deal, major American tech companies—including Microsoft, NVIDIA, Google, OpenAI, and CoreWeave—have pledged more than £31 billion to expand the UK’s AI and tech infrastructure. This investment includes data centers, advanced GPUs, supercomputers, and AI research hubs, reinforcing the UK’s position as a global leader in emerging technologies. These efforts build on a previous £44 billion investment into the UK AI and technology sector.
The partnership will foster joint research initiatives leveraging AI and quantum computing for shared priorities such as drug discovery, healthcare innovation, and fusion energy. A new AI Growth Zone in the North East of England is expected to create over 5,000 jobs and attract billions in private investment, supported by collaborations between UK firms like Nscale and US companies including NVIDIA and OpenAI.
Key US technology companies are making historic investments in the UK. Microsoft will invest $30 billion over four years to build the country’s largest AI supercomputer, while Google will open a £5 billion data center in Hertfordshire, supporting AI research and job creation. CoreWeave and Salesforce are also investing billions in AI infrastructure, data centers, and R&D hubs, creating high-skilled jobs and fostering local economic growth.
British firms are central to the collaboration. Companies like Nscale, Arm, Oxford Quantum Circuits, and Oxford Ionics are partnering with US counterparts to deploy cutting-edge AI infrastructure, quantum computing, and advanced semiconductors. Projects such as Stargate UK will deliver AI supercomputing capabilities and sustainable computing platforms, enabling scalable, energy-efficient AI innovation across the country.
Government leaders emphasized the transformative potential of the pact. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer highlighted that the deal will create jobs, drive growth, and strengthen transatlantic ties, while Technology Secretary Liz Kendall stressed its impact on medical breakthroughs and life-changing innovations. CEOs from Microsoft, NVIDIA, OpenAI, Salesforce, and CoreWeave echoed the significance of the partnership in boosting the UK’s AI ecosystem, advancing technological leadership, and supporting economic prosperity.
