CARE Nepal is preparing to support communities affected by a sudden flash flood that swept through Nepal’s Rasuwa district on August 26, 2026. The flood travelled down the Bhote Koshi River from the Tibetan side, affecting areas including Timure and Syabrubesi before flowing into the Trishuli River.
The flooding has triggered high alerts in Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan districts. Search and rescue operations are underway as authorities and humanitarian organizations work to determine the full extent of casualties and damage.
CARE Nepal is coordinating with the Government of Nepal, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, international NGO networks, humanitarian partners and local organizations to monitor the situation and assess the needs of affected communities.
The organization is preparing to mobilize emergency relief supplies, including shelter materials, hygiene kits and dignity kits, as needs are confirmed on the ground. Many families have reportedly lost homes, possessions and livelihoods, while damage to water and sanitation infrastructure has raised concerns about potential waterborne diseases.
Relief efforts will prioritize people facing the greatest risks and barriers to recovery, particularly women, girls, older people and people with disabilities. CARE Nepal also plans to conduct a Rapid Humanitarian Analysis to identify the specific needs and risks facing women and families affected by the disaster.
As assessments continue, CARE Nepal remains ready to provide immediate assistance and support longer-term recovery efforts. The organization aims to help affected families meet urgent needs while rebuilding their livelihoods and strengthening community resilience following the devastating flood.
