The European Union (EU) has allocated €15 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to help sustain critical humanitarian assistance for communities living near Ukraine’s frontline areas. The funding will support emergency cash assistance and humanitarian logistics operations for people affected by the ongoing conflict.
The contribution will enable WFP to provide financial support to Ukrainians living close to active conflict zones, those evacuating frontline areas, and communities impacted by attacks. The assistance aims to help families access essential supplies and meet urgent daily needs.
The funding will also strengthen WFP’s humanitarian logistics network, which delivers vital aid to communities where local supply chains have been disrupted. Through the UN Logistics Cluster, WFP continues to operate regular convoys carrying essential supplies from humanitarian organizations to civilians in frontline regions.
WFP officials highlighted the importance of maintaining these operations, noting that logistics services are a critical part of the humanitarian response. The EU’s support comes at an important time, helping ensure that aid continues reaching communities facing the greatest challenges.
Since the escalation of the war in 2022, the EU has provided significant support for WFP’s humanitarian activities in Ukraine. With international assistance, WFP continues to reach hundreds of thousands of people every month with food, cash support, and other essential aid near the frontline.
The new funding reinforces international efforts to protect vulnerable communities, maintain humanitarian access, and provide life-saving assistance to people affected by the conflict.
