Tajikistan and the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub have strengthened collaboration on food systems transformation priorities for 2026 during a National Convenor Touchpoint Meeting held in Dushanbe on 18 June 2026.
The meeting brought together representatives from Tajikistan’s National Food Systems Coordination Mechanism, government institutions, UN agencies, and the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub to review progress, discuss challenges, and identify opportunities to advance sustainable and resilient food systems.
During the discussions, Tajikistan’s National Convenor, Mr. Shirinjonzoda Mahmud, First Deputy Chairman of the Food Safety Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, highlighted the country’s progress in implementing its food systems transformation pathway. Participants reviewed key achievements, ongoing initiatives, and strategic priorities aimed at improving nutrition, supporting livelihoods, protecting the environment, and promoting economic growth.
Representatives from the Government of Tajikistan, the United Nations Resident Coordination Office, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub discussed emerging challenges and explored areas where stronger technical cooperation and resources could accelerate transformation efforts.
The UN Food Systems Coordination Hub recognized Tajikistan’s continued commitment to advancing food systems transformation, noting the country’s active participation in global food systems initiatives and its efforts to implement national pathways for sustainable development.
The meeting also highlighted new opportunities for support, including technical assistance, knowledge sharing, partnerships, and participation in global programmes focused on youth leadership and food systems innovation. Discussions identified ways to strengthen regional cooperation and encourage collaboration between countries working toward healthier and more sustainable food systems.
The meeting concluded with plans for follow-up actions, including the possible organization of a Convergence Initiative Workshop in Tajikistan later this year. The initiative will support stronger coordination and help advance efforts under the programme “Transforming Food Systems for Improved Nutrition in Tajikistan.”
The continued partnership between Tajikistan and the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub reflects a shared commitment to improving food security, nutrition, environmental sustainability, and resilience for future generations.
