The Government of Yukon has announced a $5.1 million investment to support the construction of 87 new partner-built homes across several communities, as part of its ongoing Housing Initiatives Fund.
The funding was approved through the ninth intake of the program and will support nine shovel-ready affordable housing projects in Mayo, Haines Junction, Dawson, and Whitehorse, along with one additional concept-stage project in Dawson. Of the 87 homes planned, 54 will be designated as affordable housing units, helping address ongoing housing demand across the territory.
Community partners receiving funding include the Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation in Mayo, private developers in Haines Junction and Dawson, and multiple organizations in Whitehorse such as the Friends of Mount Sima Society, 838960 Yukon Inc., SHVT Inc., and the Yukon Engineering Society. The Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Government in Dawson will receive concept funding to support pre-development planning.
Officials emphasized that the investment reflects a continued effort to expand housing availability and improve affordability across Yukon communities. Since 2018, the Housing Initiatives Fund has committed more than $42 million toward housing development, supporting over 1,000 new housing units, with nearly 800 units designated as long-term affordable housing.
The latest funding round highlights ongoing collaboration between government, private developers, and community organizations to increase housing supply and ensure more residents have access to stable and affordable homes.
