Lisburn, June 2026 – Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council has introduced a new grant scheme to support local community organisations working to reduce hardship and social exclusion.
The Addressing Poverty and Social Exclusion Fund, part of the Council’s DEA Local Investment Plan 2026–27, has a total budget of £80,000. It is designed to back community‑led projects that strengthen resilience, ease financial pressures, and help residents feel more connected.
Councillor Tim Mitchell, Chair of the Communities and Wellbeing Committee, highlighted the importance of the initiative: “Many people and families continue to feel real pressure from the rising cost of living and the impact this can have on wellbeing and social connection. This new fund is designed to support community organisations that are closest to local need, helping them deliver practical projects that reduce hardship and promote inclusion.”
Grants of up to £3,000 per organisation are available, with funding eligible for costs such as programme delivery, volunteer support, training, equipment, and transport. Applicants must be based within the Lisburn and Castlereagh area, hold a constitution or governing document, have independently examined accounts, and maintain public liability insurance.
The scheme encourages projects that complement existing services without duplicating current work, ensuring resources are used effectively to meet local needs.
By investing in grassroots organisations, the Council aims to empower communities to respond to challenges, share resources, and build stronger connections across Lisburn and Castlereagh.
