The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) has welcomed a $10 million pledge from the Let’s Build Foundation, announced during a global education discussion hosted by Norwegian author Jo Nesbø in Oslo. The event, held at Restaurant Schrøder, brought together youth representatives, philanthropy leaders, civil society organizations, and government officials to highlight the importance of investing in education in today’s unstable world. Nesbø also engaged in dialogue with youth groups on how education can promote stability, opportunity, and resilience.
This pledge forms part of GPE’s Multiply Possibility campaign, co-hosted by Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The campaign aims to mobilize $5 billion in financing and unlock an additional $10 billion in partner funding to transform learning opportunities for up to 750 million children across more than 90 countries. Mette Johansen, CEO of Let’s Build Foundation, emphasized that education builds opportunity and strengthens communities, reflecting the organization’s commitment to supporting schools and learning environments globally.
Jo Nesbø underscored the urgency of investing in education, noting its role in creating opportunity, strengthening societies, and giving young people hope. He expressed pride in supporting GPE’s mission to expand access to learning. The event also featured exchanges between youth representatives and stakeholders from government, philanthropy, civil society, and the private sector, reinforcing the collective responsibility to address global education challenges.
Laura Frigenti, CEO of GPE, expressed gratitude for the support from Jo Nesbø, the Harry Hole Foundation, and the Let’s Build Foundation. She highlighted that millions of children risk being left behind due to conflict, poverty, and displacement, and partnerships like these are essential to strengthening education systems.
A fully funded GPE would deliver transformative results, including hundreds of millions more children in school, improved learning outcomes, poverty reduction, economic growth, and climate resilience. The pledge from Let’s Build Foundation adds momentum to the campaign, reinforcing education as a cornerstone for opportunity and stability worldwide.
