The Public Welfare Foundation has announced more than $2 million in funding through its “Igniting Futures 2026” initiative, a grant program designed to strengthen youth justice reform efforts across the United States. The program focuses on supporting coalition-building work among organizations that are committed to advancing fair and effective justice systems for young people, particularly those impacted by incarceration and systemic inequities. The initiative builds on the foundation’s ongoing commitment to fostering long-term structural change in youth justice systems.
Through this funding round, two major coalitions have been selected to receive grants aimed at expanding their statewide impact. These include the Alliance for Youth Opportunity and Safety in Tennessee, which brings together multiple advocacy and community organizations to develop coordinated strategies for youth justice reform, and the Michigan Center for Youth Justice coalition, which focuses on improving diversion programs, expanding support services, and reducing deeper system involvement for young people.
Each coalition will use the funding to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders such as nonprofit organizations, policy leaders, community groups, and directly impacted youth and families. The grants are intended to support activities like strategic planning, communications development, coalition staffing, and shared advocacy efforts, all aimed at building stronger and more unified approaches to youth justice reform at the state level.
Overall, the Igniting Futures 2026 program reflects a broader strategy by the Public Welfare Foundation to invest not only in individual organizations but in collective action models that can drive sustainable systems change. By encouraging collaboration across diverse partners and regions, the initiative seeks to amplify impact, strengthen advocacy capacity, and create long-lasting improvements in how youth justice systems operate in participating states.
