Ontario Awards Georgina $1.3 Million from Building Faster Fund to Support Housing Growth

Dated: August 12, 2025

The Ontario government is awarding $1,333,579 to the Town of Georgina through the second round of the Building Faster Fund, which rewards municipalities that meet at least 80 percent of their provincially set housing targets. In 2024, Georgina broke ground on 417 new homes, reaching 81 percent of its housing target. This funding will support the construction of additional homes and community infrastructure, aligning with Ontario’s broader plan to invest in infrastructure that drives economic growth and job retention.

Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, emphasized that the Building Faster Fund helps municipalities like Georgina accelerate housing development by speeding up approval processes. The fund is part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure more homes are built quickly across Ontario through collaboration with local governments.

Launched in August 2023, the Building Faster Fund is a three-year, $1.2 billion program aimed at encouraging municipalities to expedite housing approvals. By providing financial incentives to municipalities that make measurable progress toward their housing goals, the fund supports investments in housing-enabling and community infrastructure.

Margaret Quirk, Mayor of Georgina, expressed appreciation for the government’s support, highlighting how the funding recognizes the town’s strong progress toward ambitious housing goals and will further enable community growth through essential infrastructure investments.

The Ontario government is also facilitating faster housing development through legislative measures such as the Protect Ontario by Building Faster and Smarter Act 2025, which streamlines development processes and reduces costs in partnership with municipalities.

Between January and June 2025, Ontario recorded 9,125 rental starts, marking a 26.5 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. This is the second-highest level of rental starts for this time of year, following record numbers in 2023. To support continued housing growth, the government has extended the deadline for municipalities to spend funds awarded through the Building Faster Fund to 2028.
