The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has donated One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 100,000) to Blind Support, an NGO that assists persons with disabilities. This funding is intended to support a skills training program designed to equip persons with disabilities and their affiliates with basic entrepreneurial and employable skills, fostering sustainable employment opportunities.
The Director-General of NLA, Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Salam, highlighted the organization’s mandate under the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722), which includes providing care and protection for vulnerable groups such as the physically or mentally afflicted, the needy, the aged, orphans, and destitute children. The NLA committed to continuing its partnership with Blind Support to help expand this initiative.
Additionally, NLA presented a cheque of Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 50,000) to the National Youth Authority (NYA) in support of their upcoming National Youth Festival. This aligns with the Youth and Sports Development Pillar of the NLA Good Causes Foundation, which promotes youth development through various programs.
The NLA Good Causes Foundation serves as the Authority’s charitable arm and is responsible for its corporate social responsibility initiatives. It operates under four key pillars: Health, Education, Youth and Sports Development, and Arts and Culture. The Health Pillar provides infrastructure support, training for mental health workers, hospital supplies, and medical outreach services. The Education Pillar offers support to talented but financially disadvantaged students and educational institutions. The Youth and Sports Development Pillar focuses on enhancing youth capacity, supporting sporting activities—especially lesser-known sports—and providing technical and skills support to youth-owned SMEs, with special emphasis on persons with disabilities and those with special needs interested in entrepreneurship. The Arts and Culture Pillar supports the preservation of Ghanaian cultural events and educational programs.
The NLA Governing Board also oversees discretionary projects that the Authority undertakes annually.
