The Farm Foundation is excited to introduce its Agricultural Economics Fellow and Agricultural Economics Trade Fellow Programs, aimed at exceptional early-to-mid career agricultural economists seeking to join their team for a year. The Agricultural Economics Fellow initiative is tailored to support a rising star in the field by providing a post-Ph.D. agricultural economist with a year-long opportunity for mentorship, thought leadership, networking, project management, and enhanced visibility in the food and agricultural sectors, with the 2025 focus on the bioeconomy.
With various initiatives in the private sector and government striving to expand market opportunities in agriculture and the bioeconomy sector while promoting sustainability, the 2025 fellowship aims to connect an agricultural economist specializing in the bioeconomy with key industry players and government agencies to publish research, network, and attend industry events. The selected Fellow will collaborate with diverse stakeholders to explore how the bioeconomy impacts U.S. and global food and agricultural markets, with a specific emphasis on renewable energy and bioeconomy topics like sustainable aviation fuel, biofuel feedstocks, and bioenergy from biomass.
The expected outcomes for the Fellow include participating in Farm Foundation programs, producing written content, authoring an issue paper on sustainable food systems, networking with USDA staff and Ag Scholars, and engaging with other Farm Foundation programs. Eligibility is open to nominations from faculty or self-nominations, and the selection process will involve narrowing down the applicant pool by early December 2024, with the final candidate selection to be made by mid-December 2024 after interviews with Farm Foundation and industry experts.
