The United Kingdom is providing £1 million (PHP 77 million) in humanitarian assistance to support communities in the Philippines affected by Typhoons Tino and Uwan. This funding will deliver life-saving services and essential supplies, including multi-purpose cash assistance and shelter repair kits, to the most impacted populations.
British Ambassador Sarah Hulton OBE emphasized the UK’s commitment to supporting the Philippines with practical solutions during crises, helping communities recover and strengthen their resilience for the future. Part of the funding will be used by the World Food Programme in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to provide cash assistance, enabling affected individuals to meet their immediate needs.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) will use some of the funds to provide shelter and shelter repair kits for those who have lost their homes. In addition, women’s rights and women-led organizations will receive support through the First Response Fund for the Philippines, allowing them to provide food, water, sanitation, hygiene, and sexual and reproductive health services to vulnerable populations.
His Majesty King Charles III also expressed deep concern over the losses caused by the recent typhoons. The UK’s contribution forms part of a broader humanitarian response, including support for global funds such as the Start Ready fund and the UN Central Emergency Response Fund, which have released additional millions for anticipatory action and disaster relief.
