The European Commission has selected 70 projects for funding to support the decarbonisation of transport across the European Union, with two of these projects located in Portugal. The selected initiatives aim to strengthen EU industrial competitiveness by expanding infrastructure for recharging and refuelling various modes of transport, including road, maritime, and air networks.
More than €600 million will be allocated through the Connecting Europe Facility to stimulate investments in key urban areas, such as ports and airports, as well as along major road corridors of the trans-European transport network. This funding will facilitate the transition to cleaner mobility and support the EU’s broader climate objectives.
One of the Portuguese projects selected is the MadoquaPower2X initiative in Sines, which seeks to become a global leader in the production of green hydrogen and renewable ammonia. Developed by a consortium comprising Madoqua Renewables, Power2X, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, the project will receive €14.1 million to advance the use of electrolysis technology for the production of green hydrogen and ammonia.
The second Portuguese project involves Mota Engil, which will receive €2.28 million to install accessible electric charging stations across Portugal and Spain. These stations will service both light vehicles and trucks, contributing to the expansion of sustainable transport options along key European transport routes.
