The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), through its Financing Facility for Remittances (FFR) and as part of the DigitRemit Morocco programme (2024–2028) co-financed by the European Union Delegation in Rabat, has launched a Call for Proposals (CfP25) to increase the impact of digital remittances in Morocco. The initiative aims to enhance financial inclusion, economic empowerment, and sustainable development, with a focus on rural and peri-urban areas where access to financial services remains limited.
The call invites partners in Morocco to develop and implement innovative projects addressing three key objectives. The first objective is to expand access to digital transfer services, providing affordable and secure options for Moroccan migrants and their families, particularly in underserved rural and peri-urban communities. The second objective focuses on promoting the use of digital financial services linked to remittances, including savings, micro-insurance, credit, and agricultural or climate finance products that leverage remittance flows to drive economic empowerment. The third objective emphasizes financial and digital education, supporting training and awareness programs to build trust, financial literacy, and digital skills among remittance senders and recipients for more effective use of financial services.
The call is open to a broad range of applicants capable of strengthening Morocco’s digital remittance ecosystem. Eligible participants include private sector entities such as financial intermediaries, money transfer operators, mobile network operators, microfinance institutions, fintech companies, cooperatives, diaspora networks, NGOs, and investment funds. Public sector entities, including central banks, financial regulators, government agencies, and public research or development institutions, are also invited to apply. Additionally, international organizations with expertise in financial inclusion, remittances, or digitalization are encouraged to participate, fostering a collaborative approach to expanding the reach and impact of digital remittance services across Morocco.
