Armidale Regional Council is inviting individuals, community groups, clubs, and organisations to participate in a free community grant writing workshop designed to help secure funding for local projects. The workshop, open to anyone in the region interested in developing their ideas into funded initiatives, aims to equip participants with practical skills and confidence in the grant application process.
Mayor Sam Coupland highlighted that the hands-on session will provide tools for community organisations, volunteers, and local leaders to successfully turn project ideas into viable funding proposals, emphasizing the Council’s commitment to supporting local initiatives.
The workshop will be led by Margot Davis of Unearthed Prosperity, an experienced economic development practitioner and grant writer. Scheduled for Tuesday, 14 October at NOVA, 122 Faulkner Street, Armidale, the session will cover the essentials of grant writing, from project planning and defining objectives to drafting strong applications and managing grants post-submission.
Participants will gain practical experience with exercises, templates, and examples tailored to rural and regional communities, focusing on real-world funding opportunities such as the Foundation for Rural and Regional (FRRR) Small & Vital program. The workshop will also explore how AI tools can support grant writing by enhancing structure, saving time, and maintaining a strong community voice.
Attendees will leave with a draft project summary, a clearer understanding of funder expectations, and actionable strategies for reporting and follow-up. Mayor Coupland noted that the workshop offers a valuable opportunity to improve grant writing skills, share experiences, and strengthen connections among those working to benefit the region, ultimately helping secure funding for projects that address local needs.
