The Ontario government is investing $5 million to support racialized and Indigenous entrepreneurs through the 2025-26 Racialized and Indigenous Supports for Entrepreneurs (RAISE) program. This initiative provides free business development training, coaching, networking opportunities, and a one-time grant of $10,000 to help over 400 entrepreneurs turn innovative ideas into successful businesses, creating local jobs and contributing to long-term economic growth.
The program is part of a broader $15 million three-year investment designed to equip entrepreneurs and small business owners with the training and resources necessary to launch and grow their enterprises across Ontario. Participants in the RAISE program will receive free online business development training from DMZ at Toronto Metropolitan University, one of Canada’s leading business incubators, along with expert guidance and access to funding upon successful completion.
Since its launch in 2022, the RAISE program has empowered Indigenous, Black, and other racialized entrepreneurs to strengthen their business foundations, expand their reach, and create sustainable jobs within their communities. Entrepreneurs like Miki Ferrall, co-founder of Crafty Ramen, have leveraged the program’s support to grow their businesses and bring their unique offerings to wider markets.
The program aligns with other provincial initiatives, such as the Black Youth Action Plan’s Economic Empowerment stream, which focuses on career development, entrepreneurship, and employment support for Black youth and professionals. Eligible participants must be registered or incorporated businesses based in Ontario and owned by Indigenous, Black, or other racialized individuals.
Ontario officials emphasize that the RAISE program not only fosters business growth but also strengthens resilient communities and advances economic reconciliation. Ministers and program partners highlight the importance of providing targeted resources and mentorship to ensure that women and underrepresented entrepreneurs have equal opportunities to succeed, contributing to a vibrant and inclusive provincial economy.
