Auckland Council is supporting the development of community sports infrastructure by allocating $9.5 million in funding to 22 organisations. This funding, provided through the Sport and Recreation Facilities Investment Fund (SRFIF), aims to enhance access to quality sports facilities for Auckland residents. The decision to distribute the grants was approved by the Community Committee on 29 July 2025.
The SRFIF targets non-council-owned sports facilities that form a key part of the region’s broader sport and recreation infrastructure. The fund is designed to increase opportunities for community participation in sport and recreation through strategic investment in facility development.
Grant recipients were selected through a competitive application process. Auckland Council staff and an independent assessment panel evaluated each proposal based on the organisations’ capability, the feasibility and current status of the project, and their funding plans. Each successful project is expected to secure additional funding and use the SRFIF grant as a part of their total financing strategy, often serving as cornerstone funding.
All 22 projects recommended for support were approved to receive a share of the total $9,521,045 fund, contributing to the long-term enhancement of sports and recreational spaces across Auckland.
