Nine former rebels in Iloilo province received livelihood grants under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP). Each individual was awarded ₱20,000, totaling ₱180,000 in Livelihood Settlement Grants aimed at supporting their small-scale business ventures.
This assistance was provided through the joint efforts of DSWD-SLP, the 61st Infantry “Hunter” Battalion (61IB), the provincial government of Iloilo, and the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). The beneficiaries came from various municipalities: four from Miagao, two from Tubungan, two from Oton, and one from Januiay.
The former rebels are engaging in sustainable livelihood projects such as cattle raising and native chicken farming. These efforts aim to facilitate their reintegration into mainstream society and promote long-term self-reliance.
The program also reflects the government’s broader peacebuilding agenda by fostering inclusive development in conflict-affected areas. Military and local officials commended the initiative, highlighting its role in enabling former insurgents to pursue peaceful and productive lives.
