Global Call for Applications: Advancing Agriculture and Food Systems

Dated: June 6, 2025

Global initiatives are actively seeking applications for a diverse range of programs focused on agriculture, food security, and nutrition. These opportunities aim to address pressing global challenges by fostering innovation, building capacity, and promoting sustainable practices across various regions.

Cultivating Global Food Security: New Opportunities Emerge

Numerous organizations have announced calls for applications for projects dedicated to enhancing food and agriculture worldwide. These initiatives span various critical areas, from climate-smart agriculture to strengthening food value chains and supporting smallholder farmers.

Key Application Areas

  • Climate Mitigation and Adaptation: Programs like P4G’s call for partnerships focus on solutions for climate change within food, energy, and water sectors.
  • Commodity Value Chain Transformation: The Common Fund for Commodities invites proposals to uplift smallholder and SME-based enterprises.
  • Family Farming and Local Food Systems: The French Committee for International Solidarity (CFSI) seeks proposals to improve the resilience of local food systems.
  • Agricultural Research and Development: The African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) is offering a leadership program for emerging African women in agricultural sciences.
  • Food Processing and Innovation: Opportunities exist for developing the food processing sector, particularly in regions like Ethiopia, and for agricultural innovations within Green Innovation Centers.
  • Risk Assessment and Policy Making: The European Food Risk Assessment Fellowship Programme and grants for evidence-informed policy-making are available.

Specialized Programs for Agricultural Development

Beyond broad agricultural initiatives, specific programs target niche areas within the sector:

  • Africa Cocoa Fund (ACF): The Rainforest Alliance’s ACF provides financial and technical assistance to certified cocoa farmers in West and Central Africa. The fund aims to build capacity for sustainable agriculture, address child labor, and support sustainability projects beyond certification requirements. Key focus areas include:
    • Interventions supporting certified cocoa farmers in West and Central Africa.
    • Addressing child labor through CLMRS, Assess & Address, and remediation actions.
    • Geodata collection for compliance with High Conservation Value areas.
    • Digitization of Internal Management Systems (IMS) and traceability.
    • Income diversification and skill development.
    • Landscape-level issues and climate-smart strategies.
  • Rice Miller Business Academy (RMBA) Training of Trainer Program: This program invites technical experts in West Africa to become certified trainers for the RMBA. The academy provides business-oriented training to rice millers in areas such as marketing, business economics, finance, farmer services, and milling operations. The program seeks to enhance the capacity of rice companies to compete, improve operations, and manage financial aspects effectively.

Eligibility and Deadlines

Eligibility criteria vary significantly across programs, often specifying geographical scope, organizational type, and project focus. Deadlines for these opportunities range from early 2025 to later in the year, with some extending into October 2025. Interested parties are encouraged to review the specific requirements for each call for applications.
