Twelve olive oil and table olive producers in Belsh, Albania, have successfully completed the “Growing with Your Business” (GYB) programme, transforming small family-run businesses into more competitive and export-ready enterprises. Implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the six-month initiative ran from October 2025 to April 2026 and focused on strengthening the capacity of local small and medium-sized businesses.
The programme combined personalized business consultancy, professional training, financial support, and market access opportunities to help producers improve productivity and competitiveness. Each participating business received tailored guidance, practical training in business management and manufacturing standards, grant funding for equipment or branding improvements, and support to participate in national trade fairs.
The initiative was delivered under the Business Partnerships and Solutions for Sustainable Development Goals project, funded by the Government of Sweden and implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), working closely with the Municipality of Belsh.
The programme delivered measurable results, including a 28% average increase in customer base, full adoption of Good Manufacturing Practices, more than 14 new jobs created, and significant improvements in marketing and digital business practices. Participating businesses also invested nearly eight times the value of the grants provided, demonstrating strong confidence in the programme and its long-term benefits.
By combining technical expertise, financial assistance, and market opportunities, the Growing with Your Business programme has strengthened Albania’s olive oil sector and provided a practical model for supporting small businesses, promoting local employment, and expanding access to international markets.
