Egypt has officially launched a new Code of Conduct for Regulating Children’s Training and Employment, marking a significant step toward strengthening child protection and aligning industrial practices with international labour standards. The initiative was developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Labour, the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), and the Egyptian Trade Union Federation (ETUF).
The new framework aims to regulate children’s training and employment in accordance with Egyptian labour laws and international standards while safeguarding children’s rights to education, health, safety, and development. It also seeks to reduce the worst forms of child labour by promoting responsible workplace practices across the industrial sector.
Developed under the ILO’s Empowerment Through Education and Learning (ETEL Egypt) project, the Code of Conduct supports safer training environments and encourages employers to follow clear guidelines for child employment. The initiative is backed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation as part of broader efforts to strengthen child protection in Egypt.
Industry leaders emphasized that providing young people with safe and properly regulated vocational training can help prepare them for future careers while protecting their well-being. The launch event also celebrated the graduation of 141 students from Egypt’s apprenticeship programme, highlighting the country’s commitment to developing skilled workers through education and responsible training opportunities.
The new Code of Conduct reflects the shared commitment of government, employers, workers’ organizations, and international partners to promote safe workplaces, protect children’s rights, and support sustainable workforce development across Egypt.
