The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the United Republic of Tanzania have signed a five-year Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) covering the period from 2026 to 2031. The agreement is designed to accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development while supporting Tanzania’s long-term economic vision.
Developed at the request of the Tanzanian government, the Programme for Country Partnership serves as a collaborative platform that brings together government institutions, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and financial institutions. The initiative supports the implementation of Tanzania Development Vision 2050 (Dira 2050), which aims to transform the country into a competitive and industrialized economy.
The programme will focus on strengthening industrial governance, expanding local value addition, enhancing workforce skills, and attracting new investment. By aligning policy reforms, financing, and strategic partnerships, the initiative seeks to create jobs, improve productivity, and boost industrial competitiveness.
As one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, Tanzania is strategically positioned as a key trade and logistics hub connecting East, Central, and Southern Africa. Infrastructure assets such as the Port of Dar es Salaam and the Central Corridor provide significant opportunities for regional trade expansion and value chain development.
The partnership also emphasizes sustainable industrialization through resource-efficient production methods, circular economy practices, and sustainable energy solutions. These measures are intended to support economic growth while promoting environmental responsibility and long-term resilience.
UNIDO and Tanzania view the new programme as an important step toward strengthening industrial capacity, expanding trade opportunities, and fostering inclusive economic development. By mobilizing investment and encouraging innovation, the partnership aims to help Tanzania achieve its industrial transformation goals and create lasting benefits for businesses and communities across the country.
