The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU) have launched a new phase of the “Union Power for a More Inclusive and Gender-Equal World of Work” project in Jordan. The initiative aims to strengthen workers’ rights, promote gender equality, and support more inclusive labour practices.
The renewed nine-month partnership focuses on improving access to labour rights, expanding social dialogue, and enhancing the capacity of trade unions to represent workers effectively. It also places special emphasis on increasing the participation of women and young people in trade union leadership and decision-making.
The agreement builds on the achievements of the project’s first phase and supports efforts to create a fairer and more inclusive labour market. Through stronger collective bargaining, improved awareness of labour standards, and institutional development, the programme seeks to advance decent work opportunities across Jordan.
The initiative includes training programmes, workplace engagement activities, and capacity-building efforts for trade union members. It will also support the review of collective bargaining agreements to ensure they better reflect gender equality principles and address the needs of diverse workers.
Jordan’s Ministry of Labour has expressed support for the programme, highlighting the important role of trade unions in protecting workers’ interests and contributing to positive labour market reforms.
The project is part of the broader “Equality at Work” programme, funded by the Government of Norway and implemented by the ILO’s Decent Work for Women Programme in Jordan. Through collaboration between government, employers, and workers’ organizations, the initiative aims to strengthen social justice and create a more equitable future of work.
