Chicago, June 2026 – Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) have unveiled $5 million in tourism funding through three grant programs aimed at boosting attractions, events, and international visitation across the state.
The funding includes $2 million for the Route 66 Grant Program, $1 million for the International Tourism Grant Program, and $2 million for the Tourism Marketing Partnership Grant Program. Eligible entities can apply to promote and preserve the historic Route 66 corridor, attract international visitors, and develop new destinations and events to strengthen Illinois’ tourism industry.
Governor Pritzker emphasized the role of tourism in supporting local economies: “These grants will help communities attract even more visitors from near and far to Illinois.” Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton added that the funding will highlight Illinois’ unique stories and experiences while boosting regional economies.
Illinois’ tourism sector continues to thrive, with 113 million visitors in 2024 spending $48.5 billion, and hotel revenues reaching a record $367 million in FY25. The state’s award‑winning “Middle of Everything” campaign has also driven an additional 2.4 million trips since its launch in 2022, generating over $1 billion in visitor spending.
Applications for the Route 66 Grant Program are open until June 11, 2026, while deadlines for the International Tourism Grant Program and Tourism Marketing Partnership Grant Program are June 15 and June 17, respectively. Grants will be awarded through a competitive Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) process.
By investing in tourism, Illinois aims to celebrate its heritage, attract global visitors, and expand opportunities for communities across the state.
