The Government of the Netherlands has reaffirmed its long-standing partnership with the International Organization for Migration International Organization for Migration by announcing a new unearmarked contribution of EUR 16 million over four years, strengthening global efforts to support safe, orderly, and regular migration. The announcement was made during high-level meetings in The Hague between Dutch officials and IOM leadership, reflecting continued cooperation on migration governance and humanitarian response.
During the discussions, IOM Director General Amy Pope emphasized the growing complexity of global migration challenges and rising humanitarian needs, noting that the Netherlands remains a trusted and consistent partner. The meetings also included exchanges with Dutch government representatives such as Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sjoerd Sjoerdsma and Minister for Asylum and Migration Bart van den Brink, focusing on shared priorities in migration management and international cooperation.
The funding commitment is expected to enhance IOM’s operational capacity, enabling faster and more effective support for vulnerable populations on the move while strengthening systems that promote protection, stability, and long-term solutions. As one of IOM’s founding member states, the Netherlands continues to position itself as a key advocate for evidence-based and people-centred migration policies that address global displacement and development challenges.
The renewed partnership highlights a broader commitment to international cooperation and reinforces efforts to reduce migrant vulnerabilities while promoting dignified and well-managed migration systems.
