Lusaka — May 28, 2026 — The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the European Union (EU) have facilitated a landmark Ghana–Zambia exchange mission aimed at enhancing collaboration in skills development, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and employability.
During a private‑sector engagement forum at the Zambia Institute for Tourism and Hospitality Studies (ZITHS), Permanent Secretary Zechariah Luhanga of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security praised the partnership for creating a platform to share experiences and strengthen workforce development. He emphasized that cooperation between Ghana and Zambia will help both nations build skilled, productive, and employable workforces aligned with labour‑market needs.
The mission, part of the EU–Ghana Pact for Skills Project and Zambia’s Skills Development for Increased Employability Programme (SDEP), focuses on improving TVET governance, funding mechanisms, and private‑sector engagement while advancing green and digital skills.
Sector‑specific sessions in mining, energy, agriculture, and tourism highlighted how skills development drives economic growth and job creation. Stakeholders also discussed the importance of collaboration among government, employers, workers’ organizations, and training institutions to ensure TVET programmes meet evolving industry demands.
Supported by the EU and ILO, the Ghana–Zambia partnership reflects a shared commitment to inclusive economic transformation and decent work. By exchanging best practices and strengthening training systems, both countries aim to empower youth, boost productivity, and promote sustainable development.
