Dublin — May 28, 2026 — Minister for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy Jennifer Murnane O’Connor TD has announced the allocation of €5.2 million under Round 4 of the Healthy Ireland Fund (HIF) for 2026. Each of Ireland’s 31 local authorities will receive €75,000 to support outcome‑based initiatives aimed at improving health and wellbeing in communities nationwide.
The Healthy Ireland Fund, administered by Pobal, supports local and national projects aligned with the Healthy Ireland Framework, which seeks to foster a culture of wellness and reduce health inequalities. The funding will ensure that existing programmes continue through to December 31, 2026, while preparing for the next phase of the framework.
Round 4 of the Fund focuses on health equity, prevention, and community wellbeing through locally tailored interventions. The thematic areas include keeping active, staying connected, eating well, minding mood and body, and encouraging creativity. Minister Murnane O’Connor emphasized that the Fund illustrates the government’s commitment to building healthier communities, thanking local authorities and stakeholders for their role in delivering wellness initiatives.
Projects supported under the Fund have already demonstrated significant impact. In Wicklow, the Travellers’ Group expanded youth services and promoted inclusion through sports and cultural activities. In Kildare, the “Walking Wednesdays” programme engaged residents of the Cuan Mhuire addiction centre in physical activity and community building, improving both physical and mental wellbeing.
The Healthy Ireland Fund represents a whole‑of‑government approach, addressing social determinants of health such as housing, education, and environment. With structured monitoring through the Healthy Ireland Outcomes Framework, the initiative continues to strengthen health equity and resilience across Ireland.
