Anthropic has announced a major partnership with the Gates Foundation to accelerate the use of artificial intelligence in areas that directly affect people’s lives, such as public health, education, and economic mobility. The US‑based AI company has committed $200 million in grant funding, usage credits, and technical support over four years, with a focus on regions that lack access to resources.
A large part of the collaboration will target global health. AI will be applied to speed up vaccine and drug research, improve disease tracking, and help governments make better decisions using health data. Specific diseases such as polio and HPV are priorities, where early detection and faster research could significantly improve outcomes. The partnership also aims to make complex health data more usable by integrating AI into forecasting tools and research platforms, enabling frontline workers and policymakers to respond more effectively to outbreaks.
Education is another key area of focus. The partnership will develop AI‑powered tutoring systems and career guidance platforms to improve basic learning outcomes and expand access to quality education. These tools will be rolled out in the US, India, and parts of Africa, targeting students who often face barriers to learning.
Beyond health and education, the collaboration will also support economic mobility. AI tools will be designed to help farmers access better data and resources, while workers will benefit from career guidance and skill‑tracking systems to improve employment opportunities.
The funding will be used to build tools, support partners, and create public datasets and benchmarks that can be shared more widely. Anthropic has emphasized that it will share lessons learned — both successes and failures — as the partnership expands, aiming to demonstrate how AI can be applied to real‑world challenges in ways that deliver tangible benefits.
