Ontario has announced a $2.2 million investment to support the creation of The Corleck, a new Irish-Canadian arts and cultural venue on Toronto’s waterfront. The funding, delivered through the province’s 2025 Fall Economic Statement, aligns with Ontario’s plan to preserve its cultural heritage, strengthen tourism, create jobs, and boost local economic growth. The project celebrates the enduring contributions of Ontario’s Irish community, one of the largest in Canada, with 4.6 million Canadians claiming Irish descent.
Premier Doug Ford emphasized that The Corleck will serve as a unique space for people to experience Irish-Canadian art, history, and culture. The venue will include a performance stage, gallery, café, museum, meeting and event spaces, and a rooftop terrace. Operated by the Canada Ireland Foundation, the centre will host cultural events and exhibitions that honour Irish heritage and Toronto’s immigration story.
Tourism, Culture and Gaming Minister Stan Cho noted that the project will enhance Ontario’s vibrant arts and tourism sectors, attracting visitors from around the world and supporting good local jobs. Located in Ireland Park and Bathurst Quay Common, The Corleck will add to Toronto’s waterfront attractions, complementing nearby destinations like Ontario Place and Harbourfront Centre. Construction is underway, with an opening planned for spring 2026.
The Canada Ireland Foundation’s Chair, Mark Purdy, expressed gratitude for the provincial funding, calling it a key investment in community development, job creation, and cultural vitality. The foundation aims to transform a historic Canada Malting Company building into a landmark venue that fosters creativity, inclusivity, and cross-cultural connection.
Ontario’s tourism sector remains a cornerstone of the province’s economy, generating $33 billion in GDP and supporting 300,000 jobs. In total, the provincial government is investing over $200 million in 2025 to sustain the tourism and culture industries, including support for more than 350 festivals and events and regional tourism initiatives.
In addition to Ontario’s funding, The Corleck has received financial support from the Government of Canada, the City of Toronto, private donors, and the Government of Ireland. Leaders including Caroline Mulroney, Todd McCarthy, Peter Bethlenfalvy, and Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow praised the project for strengthening Ontario’s cultural ties with Ireland, enriching the arts community, and creating a space where heritage and creativity can thrive for generations.
